The City of Kenmore has completed several
improvements to
SR 522 (Bothell Way) to increase safety, improve transit reliability, and ease congestion. Improvements include adding new traffic signals, street lighting and sidewalks, widening SR 522 for Business Access and Transit lanes, enhancing the corridor with new landscaping and medians, replacing the Swamp Creek Bridge, and more.
Construction work on SR 522 along the east and central segment
is complete.
Project improvements includes:
East Segment Improvements - 73rd Ave. NE to 83rd Pl. NE
- Extending Business Access and Transit lanes from 73rd Ave. NE to the eastern city limits
- Replacing the bridge over Swamp Creek
- New traffic signals at 77th Ct. NE (Kenmore Square) and 83rd Pl. NE
- New sidewalks, medians, street lighting and landscaping
Burke-Gilman Trail - 73rd Ave. NE pedestrian underpass
- New pedestrian underpass at 73rd Ave. NE, providing a safe route for trail users.
Central segment - 65th Ave. NE to 73rd Ave. NE
- New traffic signal at 73rd Ave. NE and NE 181st St.
- Realignment of the 68th Ave. NE and NE 181st St. intersection
- Traffic lane work on the south side of SR 522 at the intersection with 68th Ave. NE, adding dual westbound left turn lanes onto SR 522 and a northbound lane on 68th Ave. NE
- Realignment of the SR 522 and 65th Ave. NE intersection (including an associated minor shift of the Burke-Gilman Trail)
- New sidewalks, medians, street lighting and landscaping
West segment - 60th Ave. NE to 65th Ave. NE
Design for this section of SR 522 is underway. The City is actively pursuing the remaining funds needed to move forward with right-of-way acquisition and construction.
Some of the planned improvements include:
- Widening SR 522 from west of 61st Ave. NE to 65th Ave. NE
- Widening 61st Ave. NE from NE 181st St. to NE 175th St.
- Additional lanes at the intersection of 61st Ave. NE and SR 522 to increase capacity
- Conversion to underground utilities
- New sidewalks, street lighting, landscaping, medians and traffic signals
