Update on Republic Services Collection Disruption & Access to Lake Forest Park Drop-Off Location
July 21, 2025 Update:
Republic Services has resumed all collection services for residential customers in Kenmore. Trash and recycling will be picked up this week on regularly scheduled days and extra trash and recycling will be picked up this week at no additional charge.
July 17, 2025 Update:
Kenmore residents are heading into a second week with no planned trash or recycling collection as Republic Services workers support a nationwide Teamsters strike.
We understand and sympathize with the frustration many residents are experiencing due to the ongoing Republic Services work stoppage. Disruptions to garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection can significantly impact daily life, and we recognize the hardship this is causing for our community.
Republic Services said the company will collect double garbage, recycling and organic materials on their next regularly scheduled service day after the strike ends, at no additional charge. Additionally, Kenmore residents are able to use the free waste drop off location in Lake Forest Park.

Lake Forest Park and Kenmore residents can drop off garbage, compostables, and recycling at City Hall parking lot (17425 Ballinger Way NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16th through Friday July 18th. It’s important to know that the City of Kenmore is not a garbage service provider, nor does the City contract directly for these services. Curbside collection in Kenmore is provided by Republic Services; this arrangement is regulated at the county and state level, not by the City.
Under RCW 35.02.160, the City’s authority to enter into a direct franchise agreement with a solid waste service provider is limited. Even if the City Council were to pursue its own contract or provide service directly, state law grants Republic Services the right to continue operating in Kenmore for seven additional years.
