Pandemic Impacting West Sammamish River Bridge Project
Kenmore City Council to Discuss Options on August 3
Kenmore, WA –Delivery of critical bridge elements (girders) for construction of a new southbound bridge across the Sammamish River in Kenmore is being delayed due to pandemic conditions, and the City of Kenmore is considering two options to keep the project moving forward. The Kenmore City Council will meet on August 3, 2020 at 7:00 pm to discuss the impacts and decide on the next course of action.
The options being considered are:
- Maintain traffic on both south bound and north bound bridges as originally scheduled, but delay completion of the project for one year and incur additional costs, estimated at $2.5M.
- Move all traffic to the north bound bridge (one lane in each direction) for approximately ten months in 2021 and complete the project on time and within the project budget.
The southbound bridge which is being replaced was constructed in the 1930’s and is nearing the end of its engineered life. Deconstruction and replacement of the western bridge is expected to take three years, and traffic delays are unavoidable during the project. Travelers are being encouraged to use alternate routes.
The August 3, 2020 Kenmore City Council Meeting agenda includes a decision on the West Sammamish River Bridge Project that will have an impact on traffic.
