The City of Kenmore Community Development Department guides how our city grows, develops, and changes over time. The department oversees planning, land use, zoning, development regulations, building permits, code enforcement, and other programs that shape the community’s physical environment. Our work helps ensure that new development is consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan, the Kenmore Municipal Code, and community goals. Community Development staff review permits, subdivisions, site plans, zoning changes, variances, and other land-use applications, working to ensure development complies with local, state, and federal requirements. Beyond reviewing development projects, the department also engages in comprehensive long-range strategic planning with the community. With direction from City Council and the Planning Commission, staff develop and update the City’s Comprehensive Plan and other city-wide plans, housing strategies, zoning codes, transportation, and environmental policies. Through every stage of this work, we remain dedicated to serving the public, striving to balance private property rights, community priorities, economic development, housing needs, environmental protection, and quality of life as a city plans for its future.
