Background

In 2019, the City was awarded a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Highway Safety Improvements Program (HSIP) grant for Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) signage and lighting improvements. Design is scheduled to be completed in 2020. Construction is anticipated to begin by May 2021.

Project Description

Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) signage and lighting projects consist of:

  • Installation of Light Emitting Diode (LED) streetlights at locations citywide where lighting needs have been identified
  • Installation of solar powered radar Speed Feedback Signs (SFS) at locations citywide where speeding patterns exist
  • Installation of solar powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) pedestrian-activated crossing system at 84th Avenue NE and NE 145th Street
  • Evaluation of traffic interactions along the Burke Gilman Trail to improve safety, including study of the potential re-channelization of 61st Avenue NE South Leg (south of SR 522) as one-way northbound.
